Apple's iPhone 5 is generating more web traffic than Samsung's Galaxy S3, according to online advertising firm Chitka.
Results of a study conducted by Chitka on web traffic volume show that Apple's iPhone 5, which was only released a few weeks ago, outstripped Samsung's Galaxy S3 in terms of ad impressions.
The company found that of the 'millions of mobile ad impressions' it recorded on the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3, more than half - 56 per cent - originated from Apple's handset. Samsung's smartphone, which has been on sale for nearly three months, took 44 per cent of the total impressions.
"Only 18 days since the public release of the iPhone 5, the newest Apple device has overtaken the Galaxy S III in terms of Web traffic volume. Record-breaking sales numbers, along with new 4G browsing speeds which encourage data usage, are the most likely explanation for this tremendous growth," wrote Chitka in a blog post.
Chitika's data is based on mobile ad impressions it collected across its network between 3 October and 9 October, but does not reveal how the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 fared against other smartphones. This will come as unwelcome news for Samsung, whose Galaxy S3 is one of the world's top-selling smartphones, with global sales of more than 20 million handsets.
Meanwhile, Apple sold five million handsets in the first three days of its launch over the weekend of 21 September.?Forecasts predict it will sell a further 20 million by the end of November.
